Sugar Grove trustees OK new dog grooming business in town

The Sugar Grove Village Board of Trustees unanimously approved a special use permit for a new dog grooming business at its meeting on Tuesday.

Lucky Dog Grooming is setting up shop at 91 Sugar Lane, which used to be a real estate office.

The applicants, Jennifer and Walter Rainford, had approached the village of Sugar Grove with a request for a special use permit to allow a new dog grooming business in town.

Jennifer Rainford has said she hopes the establishment is open for business by the end of February.

The applicants are leasing a tenant space, which is zoned in the village’s B-1 Community Shopping District.

The village is requiring a special use permit to account for some differences between the applicant’s petition and village staff’s recommendation. Village Board approval is final, so long as a set of conditions are met. They include:

· The hours of operation be limited to between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

· No animals will be kept outside the premises

· The operator shall designate and provide an adequate area for pets to relieve themselves and keep that area clean and provide a receptacle for dog waste

Village President Sean Michels, noting how little discussion took place during the meeting, said the village board didn’t take issue with the petition.

“We’re excited to have you,” he said.

Lucky Dog Grooming already operates an establishment in Hinckley and is looking to extend its services to more customers by setting up another location in Sugar Grove.

Jennifer Rainford has said she has quite a few Sugar Grove customers that frequent her Hinckley business.

Lucky Dog Grooming “conducts their business operation by appointment only and do not operate a do-it-yourself dog washing operation,” according to village board documents.

The village’s planning commission/zoning board of appeals previously provided a positive recommendation of the applicant’s request. At that time, members of the public did not voice opposition.
