Minooka votes to ban recreational marijuana sales in town

Minooka trustees decided to pass on allowing recreational marijuana sales in town at Tuesday’s meeting.

No residents took time to make comments or ask questions during the public hearing.

Village President Patrick Brennan spoke of how the village board’s decision makes sense.

Voting no were Trustees Terry Houchens and Barry Thompson, and voting yes were Trustees Ric Offerman, Chad Hrechko, Dennis Martin and Dick Parrish.

Brennan said the village board’s decision is final—at least for now.

Also at the meeting, trustees approved an abatement agreement between the village and U.S. Cold Storage.

The village board’s decision helps give the company the go-ahead to pursue an expansion project.

The deal, as approved, is effective for three years.

After the meeting, Brennan said there is no new information to report about the distribution facility dubbed Project Sting.

The name of the company behind the potential project has not been disclosed, to date.

Brennan had this to say.
