Minooka Village Board could begin talks of allowing cannabis sales in September

Members of the Minooka Village Board of Trustees could discuss allowing recreational cannabis as early as September.

Gov. J. B. Pritzker signed the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act into law in June. The legislation legalizes recreational cannabis in the state of Illinois beginning Jan. 1, 2020.

Village Administrator Dan Duffy told WCSJ News the village could make a decision as early as October or November.

At last week’s meeting of the Minooka Committee of the Whole, trustees were provided with memos to educate them on this topic and outline the village’s options.

Municipalities have the option to opt-in or opt-out of allowing cannabis sales.

Duffy said no real discussion took place among trustees during the Minooka Committee of the Whole meeting.

Meetings of the Minooka Village Board are open to the public. Officials meet the fourth Tuesday of every month at Minooka Village Hall.
