It’s back: Rotary GroveFest in Downers Grove to return in August
Organizers of the annual Downers Grove festival have reversed their decision to cancel the event for 2021, a decision that was made in the spring.
The announcement comes on the heels of the state of Illinois entering Phase 5 of the Restore Illinois plan that allows festivals to take place.
This year’s event is being called Rotary GroveFest: Special Edition.
“The Rotary Club of Downers Grove is beyond excited to move forward after COVID-19 to have this event,” said Lisa Rasin, one of the event organizers. “We’re doing it for the community.”
The festival, which will be Aug. 19-22, is typically the biggest fundraising event put on by the Rotary Club of Downers Grove.
The event will feature live entertainment, a beer garden, carnival rides and activities.
Rasin said she believes holding the festival in August makes a lot of sense.
“It’s right before school starts,” Rasin said. “A lot of families are going to be around.”
On Aug. 19, organizers will have a preview night to allow people the opportunity to enjoythe carnival rides.
“The rides will be all up and down Burlington Avenue,” Rasin said. “You’ll buy a pass that’s unlimited.”
Organizers behind the event acknowledge they still have to do some planning. For example, the live musical acts have yet to be announced.
“We’re meeting weekly,” Rasin said. “We have a committee of 20-25 people. We’ll get it done. Everybody’s a 100% volunteer. It’s not only the Rotary Club, but we have at least 300 community volunteers. Some of them work for nonprofits that come and volunteer to help out. Without the community and all the support of the people, we couldn’t do it.”
The Rotary Club of Downers Grove is working in partnership with the Downtown Downers Grove Management Corp. to get restaurants and businesses in the downtown involved.
Rasin said there is an added emphasis this time to encourage local participation.
“The village is 100% on board,” Rasin said. “We’re excited to partner with the village of Downers Grove.”
