Officials approve plans for Route 30 development near Walmart

A new development is in the works for property off Route 30 near Walmart to include Chipotle and a potential Menards.

Plans for New Lenox Town Center were reviewed at a March 26 regular meeting of the New Lenox Village Board of Trustees.

The developer, MJR, anticipates having four or five tenants included in the approximate 10,000-square-foot lot.

Mayor Tim Baldermann last month said plans for a potential Menards are still up in the air.

“There are a lot of communities that are no longer in the game, and we are,” he said. “What that means, I don’t know.”

There are a number of communities still vying to bring in Menards.

As for Chipotle, the popular chain restaurant will utilize an approximate 2,500-square-feet space. Construction of its building is anticipated to begin this spring, Assistant Village Administrator Robin Ellis said last month. The opening date could be as early as the year’s end.

In a series of 6-0 votes, the Village decided to approve a special use request for a final planned unit development, a site plan and the setting of a surety for the new development. Baldermann was absent
