The first weekend of fall brought in a heat wave, but that did not deter area families from coming out Sept. 23 for opening day at Odyssey Fun Farm Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maize in Tinley Park.

As the leaves change and colder weather settles in, Odyssey Fun Farm aims to offer a plethora of fall family fun.

“It’s been a success ever year,” manager Clint Paraday said.

New this time around, Odyssey Fun Farm features a superhero theme.

“We got a Batman and Superman sign, and Wonder Woman’s in there,” he added. “Every year, we just come up with something different to try to give the people something to be excited about.”

Other attractions featured on site include the corn maize, giant bouncy pillow and hayrides.

Odyssey Fun Farm is a venture created as an offshoot of Odyssey Fun World.

“It’s cool because we’re already in the family entertainment [business,] and this is… [the] same aspect of what we do,” Paraday said.

Odyssey Fun Farm typically closes by November, and staff starts to brainstorm for the following fall season in January.

Each month, Odyssey Fun Farm brings in between 60,000 and 80,000 people.

“I think we credit [our success] to A, we’re a longstanding part of the community in Odyssey Fun World,” Paraday said. “Our biggest thing is we do birthday parties, and we obviously have a huge following base. So, this [farm] being right across the street from where we’re already at, the co-branding and the co-existence and the advertising of both places together at once makes it a lot of easier for us to be able to jump into it and go hit the floor running, instead of having to wait years to build up a business like this.”

Martina Klock, of Munster, Ind., said she is glad she decided to drop in.

“[I was] looking up things to do for fall,” she said.

Attending the opening day for Odyssey Fun Farm served as a first for Klock and her children.

“It’s our first time being here,” she said.

Klock and her children tried the jumping pillow, watched pig races and visited the petting zoo.

“We’re from Indiana, so [it was] about 25 minutes [to get here,] but it’s not bad,” she said. “So far, it’s worth it.”

Rodnita Samuels, of Lynwood, said she and her family were excited to make a return to Odyssey Fun Farm.

“It’s a nice, fun, family-oriented place,” she said.

Samuels trekked grounds of the farm with a stroller in tow. She said she and her children enjoyed the petting zoo most of all.

Paraday said the goal of Odyssey Fun Farm is simple: “To have all the entertainment and these families come together, create memories, create traditions, [and come out] year after year [is amazing,]” he said.

“We seem to see the same kids [and] same families out,” Paraday said. “They get to see the different stuff every year we have.”

Odyssey Fun Farm is located at 18900 Oak Park Avenue, and it operates from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 23-Oct. 29, excluding Sept. 26-27 and Oct. 3-4.

The cost of admission is $12 per person. Children age 2 and under get in for free.
